COUNTRY: Costa Rica
Even though this little country can fit into Alberta 12 times, its reputation for producing amazing coffee far exceeds its borders! Costa Rican coffee has set the standards for fine wet-processed coffee for the rest of Central and South America.
REGION: Sabalito district of Coto Brus
Coto Brus is a canton in the province Puntarenas and shares a border with Panama. Most farmers in this area produce on less than five hectares of land. Coffees grown in the Coto Brus region generally have a medium acidity and body.
FARM: Hacienda Rio Negro
Hacienda Rio Negro has coffee trees that stretch up the slope even reaching the mountaintops. Down at the bottom of the valley you will find Beneficio Rio Negro, which is the farm’s processing mill. Something to take note of is Beneficio Rio Negro’s cupping lab, this allows them to maintain a very strict quality control. Consumers can rest assured that all the coffee that is shipped out of Rio Negro has to go through quality testing and approval.
