ORIGIN: Ethiopia
As Africa’s top coffee producer, Ethiopia has been growing coffee for centuries. It is well known to be where Arabica coffee originated. As Africa’s top producer, approximately 15 million people rely on some aspect of the industry for employment. The coffee industry is woven into the nation’s economy and culture. Much of the coffee grown, consists of natural indigenous heirloom varieties, and remains the source of genetic diversity needed to keep the industry alive.

REGION: Yirgacheffe
Located in the larger Sidamo region, Yirgacheffe is sub divided into micro regions. This particular blend originates from Konga, Yirga Chefe, Gedeb District, Gedeo Zone, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and the Peoples' region. Coffee characteristics from this area can vary based on elevation. Production from an elevation below 2,000 MASL, often exhibits a herbal aroma.

PRODUCER: Banko Gotiti Cooperative
This cooperative was founded in 2012, as an independent spin off from the larger Worka Cooperative, and is made up of approximately 300 members. Although these family-owned farms are located in the nearby Gedeo zone, the coffee is sold as Yirgacheffe, since the microclimate and taste profile is more aligned with that from Yirgacheffe. When cherries arrive at the station, the washed coffee is floated to remove low density, underripe or defective fruit.  It is done once again after depulping, and finally post fermentation.  This results in much lower levels of defects and provides a high degree of uniformity.

The coffee is excellent. However the new packaging is not to my liking. The measuring scoop for my roaster will not fit so I have to pour the green beans into one of your old style bags that I have saved.

Good coffee, difficult to roast

Overall a good coffee, classic natural Ethiopian. I am having trouble roasting it well compared to other beans though, it doesn't come out as evenly as other beans and has a bitterness in it that doesn't lend to pourovers that well and it is tricky to get the fruitiness to shine through. As a medium roast, it does make for a great espresso though! I will keep trying, but note that for the price it is tough to work with.

Not my cup of coffee

The roast was fine , but the flavour was not to my liking. Had to try it , but regret getting it . I think I will be more cautious in the future and get smaller amounts to make sure I like the taste. I could actually smell it when roasting and it stayed in the roast after.its just not my cup of coffee

I really enjoy roasting this bean. It’s challenging though, as i’m trying to stay around 407°F BT. lots of juicy flavour in this one. Floral, with cherries, stone fruit, and a black tea finish. I just ordered another bag as this will be a popular one. IMO Green Coffee Co, has the freshest beans, with fast shipping, great communication and service. Thanks again. )
