ORIGIN: Ethiopia
As Africa’s top coffee producer, Ethiopia has been growing coffee for centuries. It is well known to be where Arabica coffee originated. As Africa’s top producer, approximately 15 million people rely on some aspect of the industry for employment. The coffee industry is woven into the nation’s economy and culture. Much of the coffee grown, consists of natural indigenous heirloom varieties, and remains the source of genetic diversity needed to keep the industry alive.

REGION: Yirgacheffe
Located in the larger Sidamo region, Yirgacheffe is sub divided into micro regions. This particular blend originates from Konga, Yirga Chefe, Gedeb District, Gedeo Zone, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and the Peoples' region. Coffee characteristics from this area can vary based on elevation. Production from an elevation below 2,000 MASL, often exhibits a herbal aroma.

PRODUCER: Banko Gotiti Cooperative
This cooperative was founded in 2012, as an independent spin off from the larger Worka Cooperative, and is made up of approximately 300 members. Although these family-owned farms are located in the nearby Gedeo zone, the coffee is sold as Yirgacheffe, since the microclimate and taste profile is more aligned with that from Yirgacheffe. When cherries arrive at the station, the washed coffee is floated to remove low density, underripe or defective fruit.  It is done once again after depulping, and finally post fermentation.  This results in much lower levels of defects and provides a high degree of uniformity.

I got into roasting my own coffee several years ago after tasting an amazing Ethiopian Yirgacgeffe from a local roaster. I’ve been chasing that taste for years and have found it in this bean, unbeatable coffee

This may be my go to coffee to roast!

Really good coffee. Each sip gives you a strong fruity note that lingers on your palette after each sip. This may be my go to coffee to roast!
