ORIGIN: Ethiopia
As Africa’s top coffee producer, Ethiopia has been growing coffee for centuries. It is well known to be where Arabica coffee originated. As Africa’s top producer, approximately 15 million people rely on some aspect of the industry for employment. The coffee industry is woven into the nation’s economy and culture. Much of the coffee grown, consists of natural indigenous heirloom varieties, and remains the source of genetic diversity needed to keep the industry alive.

REGION: Yirgacheffe
Located in the larger Sidamo region, Yirgacheffe is sub divided into micro regions. This particular blend originates from Konga, Yirga Chefe, Gedeb District, Gedeo Zone, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and the Peoples' region. Coffee characteristics from this area can vary based on elevation. Production from an elevation below 2,000 MASL, often exhibits a herbal aroma.

PRODUCER: Banko Gotiti Cooperative
This cooperative was founded in 2012, as an independent spin off from the larger Worka Cooperative, and is made up of approximately 300 members. Although these family-owned farms are located in the nearby Gedeo zone, the coffee is sold as Yirgacheffe, since the microclimate and taste profile is more aligned with that from Yirgacheffe. When cherries arrive at the station, the washed coffee is floated to remove low density, underripe or defective fruit.  It is done once again after depulping, and finally post fermentation.  This results in much lower levels of defects and provides a high degree of uniformity.

Not my cup of coffee

The roast was fine , but the flavour was not to my liking. Had to try it , but regret getting it . I think I will be more cautious in the future and get smaller amounts to make sure I like the taste. I could actually smell it when roasting and it stayed in the roast after.its just not my cup of coffee

I really enjoy roasting this bean. It’s challenging though, as i’m trying to stay around 407°F BT. lots of juicy flavour in this one. Floral, with cherries, stone fruit, and a black tea finish. I just ordered another bag as this will be a popular one. IMO Green Coffee Co, has the freshest beans, with fast shipping, great communication and service. Thanks again. )

Wonderful beans

There’s a predictability and simplicity to roasting high altitude African beans. Yirgacheffe is wonderful and consistent, light roast provided comfortable fruitiness that’s not overwhelming. It also behaves brilliantly making pour over.

Yum!

Hi! Simjims Samual Fergus here. I have been roasting coffee for a little while now. I always use Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Organic Natural. It is the best.

Some people drink mushrooms in the morning. I prefer to drink Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Organic Natural. It has great flavour notes that will get you running faster than an Olympic runner. And trust me, if there was only one bag left of Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Organic Natural, I would be the first to grab it.

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Organic Natural has a full body, so it easily accepts a darker roast. I prefer to roast mine to just the beginning of second crack. Really pulls out some great flavours for my pallet.

Do yourself a favour and get some good coffee from a good company. The customer service is great.

Happy roasting!
