Indonesia Java Estate
Indonesia Java Estate
COUNTRY: Indonesia
The beginning of the coffee industry in Indonesia goes back to Arabica being delivered to the Java shore in 1699. Agriculture has always been the major support system of Indonesia’s economy. This economy has grown greatly in recent years and Indonesia is now home to many money-making crops including coffee. Coffee crops are grown on large estates and smaller farms across Indonesia. Due to excessive amount of rain and good soil, Indonesia is the world’s 3rd leading producer and exporter of Coffee. Indonesian coffees are highly known for the superior quality, fine taste, and unmistakable aroma.
REGION: Java
This region of Indonesia is known as the “Fertile Land” or “Spice Island” due to the overflow of natural resources. Farmers in Java are suspected to be the first to cultivate Arabica which soon spread through Indonesia. This region is home to the first commercial coffee. This little island is so synonymous with coffee that we often refer to it as a cup of “Java”.
FARM & PRODUCER: Java Jampit
Located on the eastern side of the small island of Java, The Jampit Estate strives to focus on fertilization and plant healing to help improve productivity. This is just one of five large estates in this region dating back to the “Dutch Colonial Era”. Surrounded by forests and volcanos the estate is the perfect area for growing Arabica coffee. Jampit is a large government run estate which was established in the 18th century by two Dutch men, Peter Fellinger and Markus Hartinger. It wasn’t until 1999 that the estate took on its current name. Estate Jampit has housing, a well-run school and sporting facilities to be enjoyed. When the drying patios are not filled with beans, they are converted into netball and football pitches.
The farm is Utz certified ensuring that they stick to the highest standards of all agricultural and social practices. Once the beans have been hand picked, they are meticulously inspected to remove any broken or unwanted defects. This is what delivers such an incredibly consistent coffee. Coffee from this estate, unlike most Indonesian coffee is fully washed giving its coffee a cleaner more balanced taste.
