ORIGIN: Kenya
Coffee from Kenya is often considered some of the finest, and most sought-after coffee in the world. Surprisingly, coffee has only been cultivated here since 1893, despite being a neighbour to Ethiopia. Small scale coffee growers account for about 70% off production in Kenya, and are primarily located in the high plateau regions near Mount Kenya. One could best describe coffee from this country as deep and complex with a bright, bold acidity and wine like undertone.

REGION: Nyeri County
Nyeri County lies in the fertile foothills of the Aberdare Mountain range, and is truly picturesque! The acidic volcanic soil of the region, along with just the perfect balance of sunlight and rainfall make for excellent growing conditions. Temperatures here range between 12C and 25C through out the year.

PRODUCERS: Othaya Farmers Cooperative
Nearly 70% of Kenya’s coffee industry in produced by small scale holders. The Othaya Farmers Cooperative is sourced from 1126 family-owned farms. Each farm is generally about half an acre with roughly 250 coffee trees. The cooperative owns the Ichamama Factory, a wet mill that processes all the coffee. Although there are 2 flowerings each year, the main crop ripens from October to December.

Changed my view on what coffee can be...

Roasted to a full city.
I Chose the Kenya Nyeri coffee beans to start 2025 and wow! I just finished my first cup. I ignored the cupping notes that come with the beans so that I avoided any preconceived notions.
After resting for 12 hours, I opened the jar and was hit with the smell of a nicely roasted coffee scent but also an unfamiliar fruity smell... I really couldn't put my finger on exactly what though.
As soon as I finished brewing I had a good sniff and a well aerated sip and whoa! A distinct cinnamon note with a touch of fruitiness was what I first tasted... Never have I experienced coffee like this. Still couldn't figure out exactly what it was that I was tasting.
I finally checked the cupping notes and 'apple cider' was one of the flavours listed **BINGO!**. This was a delightful, first time experience. At my age, that doesn't happen to often.
Definitely a coffee that needs to be consumed fairly quickly as the acidity begins to climb shortly after brewing but man, what a lovely start to the new year!
I just finished ordering more.

First time ordering from greencoffeeco, I am very pleased with quality of beans, fast delivery and the amount of information about the greens on the website.
Purchased 4lbs, My first 100g sample roast tasted excellent, roasted very light. Looking forward to improving my roast even further with my 4lb.

Superbe bean

It behaves like many African high altitude beans, predictable during the roast, and cups so well. City roast is excellent.
